#24: A Shooting Legend
Before Wimbledon became a tennis landmark, it hosted one of the most significant shooting events of the summer. Annie Oakley competed at Wimbledon Common during Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, earning praise as the best shot in the competition.

Around this time, she met Thomas Edison, who filmed her sharpshooting for his Kinetoscope, creating The Little Sure Shot of the Wild West. Though she didn’t pursue acting, she later starred in The Western Girl, portraying a sharpshooter for two consecutive years.
