Man Attempts to Rescue Giant Injured Snake, But Finds Something Strange Inside It

Daniel only went down to the river to check his boat after a violent storm. Then the log lying across his path began to move, and he realized he was one step away from a giant python.

But the snake wasn’t striking, and it wasn’t escaping. Then came the raw wound hidden beneath the mud, a strange swelling that didn’t look like an ordinary meal, and a desperate attempt to reach the water that ended almost as soon as it began.

Soon, a rescue team was racing to get the weakening python into surgery. What the vet pulled from inside it was something Daniel had walked past a hundred times.

#1: After the Storm

Daniel headed toward the river early that morning to check his fishing boat. The overnight storm had rattled his windows, and he worried about the ropes holding it in place. His household depended on what he caught, so damage could mean trouble.

He hoped the river had spared his boat.

#2: A Messy Riverbank

Wet branches covered the path, forcing him to slow down. Reeds and scattered rubbish had collected along the bank where floodwater had passed. He began moving loose debris aside, watching his footing in the slippery mud.

Then he noticed something lying just beyond the cleared path.

#3: The Fallen Log

At first, the thick shape looked like a log washed ashore. Mud covered much of it, and reeds hid one end. Daniel took another step, planning to walk around it.

Before his foot touched the ground, the narrow end moved slowly through the grass.

#4: Too Close

Daniel stopped with one foot still raised. Beneath the reeds lay a giant python, its thick body stretched beside a fallen branch. He lowered his foot carefully and backed away, suddenly aware of how close he had come.

Another step would have put him within reach.
