#25: Mel Tormé (Then)
The legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé appeared on Night Court playing himself, as Judge Harry Stone’s favorite musician. Harry’s obsession with “The Velvet Fog” was written into the character because actor Harry Anderson was genuinely a huge fan, and Tormé embraced the gag with good humor. His appearances always delighted viewers.

By the 1980s, Tormé was already a celebrated figure in American music, with a career spanning from the 1940s as a singer, composer, and actor. His smooth voice and charm made him a natural fit for the show’s quirky atmosphere.
